Thank you very much. 16th/17thC Chinese Carved Wood Sculpture Missionary Description Extremely rare 16th or very early 17th century Chinese carved wood sculpture depicting a Continental missionary. As a lot of peoples knows the Catholic Church has send from the begin a lot of missionary’s to other part of the world to predict the word of God. Also to Asia and China and you will fine a lot of descriptions about these periods on the internet. Sculptors and artist of all these parts of the world has made sculptures in different materials of the missionaries. This is one in wood with remains of the original polychrome. This figure is absolute beautiful and more than probably depicting a missionary which was in China. I ask the opinion of different other antique dealers here in Belgium and they all think the same as me. This absolute marvellous and very rare wooden statue is in the condition as depicted, which is very good for such antique wooden sculpture. She is also about 24” (60cm) tall.
