"The Silversmiths of North Carolina" By George Barton Cutten. Published in Raleigh by the State Department of Archives and History: 1948. The first edition of this pioneering study which identified a number of silversmiths and firms where little had been known before. George Barton Cutten, long an enthusiast and researcher of New York area silversmiths, retired from his post as President of Colgate University in 1942 and moved to Chapel Hill. He also wrote histories of silversmithing in Georgia and Virginia. Softcover. 6"x9", 93 pages, black & white illustrations and marks.
