This outstanding piece of Chinese porcelain is in the form of a seven string musical instrument called a Guqin. It is decorated with a blue and white scene of a phoenix bird and three claw dragon. From our research we have found that motifs of this period were traditionally much the same as the previous reign, though the dragons began to show changes. The mouth now more often seen closed with head facing forward, instead of looking back over and showing teeth, as seen during the Youngle period. Also, the body posturing began to show a more effortlessly fluid motion. We also begin to see five claw dragoons, instead of three, (as seen during the Yuan, Hongwu and Yongle periods). Some pieces of Xuande porcelain will also rarely show a commemorative styled three clawed dragon as seen on this guqin. Has floral designs on either end with a bird above the flower on the wide end. It is signed with the Xuande period mark along the side, as can be seen in the photo. The surface has a marbley orange peel surface and it has an unglazed bottom. This is one of the most impressive pieces of Chinese porcelain we have ever scene. It measures approximately 30 inches long by 6 + 1/2 inches across the wide end and 3 + 3/4 inches wide at the narrow end. It is just under three inches tall including the height of the rear bridge. It is in excellent condition with the exception of some nipping around the string holes, as can be seen in the photo. . Shipping, Handling, and Insurance Charges will be paid by Buyer.
