Description
Thank you very much for considering this beautiful work of art.  We are now retired and must part with a collection of over 100 ivory carvings we have loved and taken care of for nearly 40 years.  We are very proud to offer only the very FINEST in QUALITY ivory carvings. This carving is 100% genuine AFRICAN ELEPHANT IVORY and in EXCELLENT CONDITION.  It was HAND CARVED and HAND SCRIMSHAWED in China by a gifted master craftsman in the early 1900s.  It has a lovely patina that nature has chosen to bestow upon it. This carving is UNIQUE and exhibits beautiful IVORY GRAIN which is guaranteed to be clearly visible.  The ivory has been highly polished and exquisitely detailed.  The quality of the ivory, the quality of the carving and the quality of the scrimshaw work are all exceptional. This carving was legally imported into the USA. This carving can only be shipped to locations within the USA.  Effective January 1, 2009 Ebay will not permit ivory to be bought or sold on Ebay!   WARRIOR EMPEROR   This is, quite simply, an incredible work of art.     This Warrior Emperor in Ming Dynasty style clothing has been hand carved from a solid piece of premium ivory.   This okimono has a smooth sheen finish and sits on a planked ivory base.    The artist has provided a solid backdrop with dragons and lattice work.    He has carved a Foo Dog into the headdress, three Foo Dogs into the chain mail armor (one on each shoulder and one on the breast plate) and three more Foo Dogs into the back of the throne on which the emperor is seated.     The Foo Dog is the symbol of good fortune, luck and wisdom.  Guardians such as these are placed at the entrance of a home, temple, palace or other building to guard the occupants from evil and harmful spirits.    The deeply incised chain mail worn by this warrior emperor is very impressive.  Please note the amount of detail evident in the chain mail alone.    He holds a fully carved cup in his left hand and is resting his right hand on an extremely intricately carved sword he holds in front of him.    This carving has a lovely patina and is a very rare example of a seated warrior emperor.   It is also a very heavy okimono weighing in excess of 6 pounds!   This amazing work of art is unique and could easily serve as a centerpiece for the finest collection of Asian art.  It should only increase in value over time.   Dimensions: 13.50" x 6.50" x 5.50" Weight: 6 Pounds, 1 ounce   We will ship to you via USPS Priority Insured Mail.
