Description
Thank you very much for considering these beautiful works of art.  We are now retired and must part with a collection of over 100 ivory carvings we have loved and taken care of for nearly 40 years.  We are very proud to offer only the very FINEST in QUALITY ivory carvings. These carvings are 100% genuine AFRICAN ELEPHANT IVORY and in EXCELLENT CONDITION.  They were HAND CARVED and HAND SCRIMSHAWED and SIGNED in China by a gifted master craftsman in the early 1900s.  They have a lovely patina that nature has chosen to bestow upon them. These carvings are UNIQUE and exhibit beautiful IVORY GRAIN which is guaranteed to be clearly visible.  The ivory has been highly polished and exquisitely detailed.  The quality of the ivory, the quality of the carving and the quality of the scrimshaw work are all exceptional. These carvings were legally imported into the USA. These carvings can only be shipped to locations within the USA.  Effective January 1, 2009 Ebay will not permit ivory to be bought or sold on Ebay! FOO DOGS with BABY FOO DOGS - MATCHED PAIR This is a stunning matched pair of fine solid ivory Foo Dogs with their baby Foo Dogs surrounding them.  They reside on engraved octagonal sectional ivory bases.   This pair of Foo Dogs weighs an astonishing 17 pounds and each stands about 15” tall.  This is, by far, the most substantial pair of ivory Foo Dogs I have seen offered for sale. The MALE Foo Dog is resting its front paw on a brocade ball which represents the jewel of the law, a pearl or an egg enclosing a cub.  The male with the ball represents Supreme Authority. The FEMALE Foo Dog has its front paw holding down a young cub.  The female with the young cub represents Prosperity and Peace. The male and female Foo Dogs each have one baby Foo Dog crawling up the their side.  Each also has two other baby Foo Dogs at their feet looking up and seemingly at awe of them.     The Foo Dog is the symbol of good fortune, luck and wisdom. Guardians such as these are placed at the entrance of a home, temple, palace, or other building to guard the occupants from evil and harmful spirits.  Foo Dogs are the symbols of valor and energy – indispensable compliments of wisdom. Each is signed "Qianlong nian zhi" in ancient seal script on the underside of the base.  This translates to "Made in the reign of the Qianlong Emperor" (1736-1795). Each Foo Dog is displayed on a custom hand carved wooden stand. This amazing pair of Foo Dogs will provide a stellar addition to your collection of fine ivory carvings and should only increase in value over time. Dimensions (each): 14.50" x 8.00" x 7.00" Weight of Ivory (combined):  17 Pounds Signature:  Engraved - Qianlong nian zhi   We will ship to you via USPS Priority Insured Mail.
