Description
Thank you very much for considering these beautiful works of art.  We are now retired and must part with a collection of over 100 ivory carvings we have loved and taken care of for nearly 40 years.  We are very proud to offer only the very FINEST in QUALITY ivory carvings. These carvings are 100% genuine AFRICAN ELEPHANT IVORY and in EXCELLENT CONDITION.  They were HAND CARVED and HAND SCRIMSHAWED in China by a gifted master craftsman in the early 1900s.  They have a lovely patina that nature has chosen to bestow upon them. These carvings are UNIQUE and exhibit beautiful IVORY GRAIN which is guaranteed to be clearly visible.  The ivory has been highly polished and exquisitely detailed.  The quality of the ivory, the quality of the carving and the quality of the scrimshaw work are all exceptional. These carvings were legally imported into the USA. These carvings can only be shipped to locations within the USA. Effective January 1, 2009 Ebay will not permit ivory to be bought or sold on Ebay! In January of 2006 Columbus (the experts in Asian art) provided an auction estimate on these pieces of $9,000.  Auction estimates are conservative and typically well below appraised values.   WARRIORS IN CHARIOTS - MATCHED PAIR This is an exquisite pair of elephant ivory carvings which have been carved with great attention to detail.  They represent two figures immortalized in Chinese folklore and the Chinese opera.  Their names are General Yang Ling Gong, also referred to as Yang Ye, and Mu Gui Ying.  They lived during the Northern Sung Dynasty Period (960 – 1127).  General Yang defended the dynasty with his sons, all of whom died in battle, and after him his daughter-in-law Mu Gui Ying took on the leadership role and became a general in her own time leading the defense of the Dynasty.  Each chariot is drawn by two superbly carved and scrimshawed horses to which the artist has done a masterful job of imparting a feeling of motion.  Each chariot is also heavily decorated not only on the body of the chariot itself but also upon the wheels upon which it rests.  Please note the heavily incised chain mail on both generals.  Each holds a spear in one hand and the reins controlling the horses in the other. Each piece stands over one foot tall without the stand and the ivory alone weighs an incredible 11 pounds, 12 ounces in total.  Each comes with its own custom wood stand. This pair of stunning ivory carvings will become the centerpiece of your collection.  This exquisite pair will make a real statement in either your home or office and should steadily increase in value over the years.  Dimensions of Ivory (Each): 14.00" x 11.50" x 5.50" Weight of Ivory (Total): 11 Pounds, 12 ounces   We will ship to you via USPS Priority Insured Mail.
